October 2009: Freedom
in Captivity. This well-written white paper was
written by Jan Dash and Herman Liburd from the law firm of Liburd
and Dash. A portion of the paper is specific to the captive domicile,
Nevis, but the vast majority of it comprises a cohesive "Captives
101" summary, which is always in high demand at captive.com.

October 2009: Introduction
to Risk Finance for Captives. In this 19-page paper,
the author, James Mounty, supplies an in-depth introduction to insurance
and risk financing. Graphs and illustrations make complex ideas clear
and understandable for the novice. The paper not only gives helpful
information on the basics of insurance and risk finance, but then
goes on to apply these concepts with case studies and applications,
including the use of captives to finance risk. This is truly an outstanding
paper. |

May 2009: "Captives
101: Managing Cost and Risk." This recently-updated
primer defines captives and discusses the forms they can take. The
white paper also describes captive operations, and explores the
reasons for forming a captive, along with the issues to consider
in determining whether a captive is right for your organization.
TRACS:
The Road to Successful Captive Management. Captives
are created to serve their owner-policyholders. Traditional insurance
solvency and ratio standards may not apply to them. Towers Perrin
developed TRACS to help you prudently manage and benchmark your
captive operation.
October 2008: Captive
Insurance Company Glossary in searchable pdf.
This searchable pdf glossary seeks to clarify some of the
terms and jargon used in the captive insurance marketplace.
The intent is to provide a basic understanding of terms for those
unfamiliar with the terminology and a common reference point for
others engaged in more advanced areas of captive application and
theory. In general, this glossary has a U.S. perspective and presents
explanations rather than definitions.
October 2008: CAPTIVE
FEASIBILITY. Could forming a captive lower my
cost of risk? Would a captive provide us with increased capacity
and flexibility of coverage? Would formalizing risk retention via
a captive structure have a beneficial impact on the risk culture
within the company and help get claims under control? Towers Perrin
analysts answer these questions, then lay out the process they use
to implement ERM through the captive feasibility study process.
Great stuff!
