Steve McElhiney heads reinsurance for Artex Risk Solutions with his Dallas-based team by way of the 2019 acquisition of EWI Re, Inc., where he was CEO, as well as serving as the chief risk officer of Contran Corporation and president of their Vermont captive. He serves as senior vice president and global director of reinsurance for Artex globally.
Mr. McElhiney's insurance industry experience spans over two decades with several global insurance groups, such as Allianz, Transamerica, Argo Group, and Overseas Partners RE. He has served as a chief financial officer, corporate treasurer, reinsurance executive, and board member.
He is also the past board chair of the Captive Insurance Companies Association, a past president and chairman of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU®) Society, and a past chairman of the board of the Vermont Captive Insurance Association.
Mr. McElhiney has an associate in reinsurance, a master of business administration in corporate finance, a master of science in global supply chain management, and a bachelor of science from the University of Southern California.
In 2021, he was named to the Captive Review Hall of Fame.
He is the author of Fundamentals of Reinsurance and Reinsurance Markets, published by IRMI.
