Mr. Thomson is the insurance executive in residence at the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford, where he teaches and works to expand Barney school relationships with the risk and insurance industries while building a new set of experiential learning opportunities for students. Previously, Mr. Thomson was the CEO of HAI Group, an industry-owned facility of companies that provides insurance, risk management, and financial services to members of the affordable and public housing industries. Mr. Thomson is a graduate of State University of New York, and he holds a master of business administration degree in finance and management from Rider University. He brings 40 years of experience in a variety of insurance settings and executive responsibilities. Mr. Thomson is well known in the captive community, having served as the director of captive insurance for Connecticut, where he implemented the statute that allowed the formation of captives in the state of Connecticut. His background also includes additional insurance industry experience as chief operations officer of Oil Casualty Insurance Ltd., and he was formerly editor of Captive Insurance Company Reports.
