After practicing in New York City law firms since 1982, Larry launched an independent legal, consulting, advisory, mediation, and arbitration practice, Schiffer Law & Consulting PLLC, in August 2020. Recently, he became Executive Director of ARIAS•U.S. He is also a neutral hearing officer for National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM). Mr. Schiffer is a member of the American Bar Association's Tort, Trial, and Insurance Practice Section, where he was chair of the Excess, Reinsurance, and Surplus Lines Committee and presently is technology and social media vice chair of that committee. He is an active member of ARIAS•U.S. and the editor-in-chief of the ARIAS•U.S. Quarterly.
He has been recognized by Chambers USA, Insurance, Expert Guides: Best of the Best, the International Who's Who of Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers, Legal 500, Legal 500 Hall of Fame, US News and World Report, Best Lawyers in America, and Super Lawyers. He is also a recipient of the ARIAS•U.S. Dick Kennedy Award.

Mr. Schiffer received his juris doctor, cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University, where he was a member of the Albany Law Review and the Justinian Society. He received his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York.
Mr. Schiffer practices independently in the areas of insurance and reinsurance litigation, arbitration, and mediation, including matters concerning insurance insolvency and run-off. He also advises on a variety of insurance and reinsurance coverage and contract wording matters as well as due diligence for transactions involving insurance and reinsurance exposures. He also consults on claims and disputes matters and provides mediation, arbitration and expert witness services. He serves as a mediator for the US District Court for the Southern District of New York and for the New York Supreme Court Commercial Division. He is active in raising funds to unlock the cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) as part of the Wings Over Wall Street Event Committee.
