The Role of Advisers in Captive Insurance Planning
Captive insurance planning takes a team of people to put a program in place, according to Stewart Feldman, CEO of Capstone Associated Services. One of the individuals interested in the integrity of the planning is the insured's independent CPA. The CPA's role is to address the financial structure of the overall business to make sure the business has mitigated its risk.
Another adviser often seen in the captive planning process is the traditional property and casualty broker. Some brokers may look upon the captive as a competitor, when in fact the captive is not replacing the conventional policies but is simply working to provide a better risk mitigation product for the insured(s).
Another trusted member of the adviser team is the wealth adviser/money manager. This part of the work is usually handled between the client and its investment adviser where the investments are handled consistently with the captive domicile.
