The Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) has announced the appointment of Collin Anderson as director of policy and regulation, effective July 1.

Mr. Anderson brings 23 years of experience in both public and private sectors, including roles at the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), the Government of Bermuda, and the insurance industry. At ABIR, he will lead efforts in representing the public policy interests of Bermuda's international insurers and reinsurers, conduct research on international policy and regulation, manage the Hamilton office, and serve as corporate secretary. He will report to John Huff, ABIR's CEO.

Recently, Mr. Anderson worked as a consultant to the Government of Bermuda, focusing on implementing Bermuda's Corporate Income Tax for the Ministry of Finance. His work included policy, legislative, operational, communications, and financial aspects.

During his nearly 5 years at the BMA, Mr. Anderson was lead supervisor for several insurance groups, managed companies under close monitoring, and engaged with international regulatory bodies. His last role at the BMA was deputy director of strategy and international affairs.

In his 12-year tenure with the Government of Bermuda, Mr. Anderson served as permanent secretary for the Ministry of Economy and Labor and the Ministry of National Security. He was also the founding director of the Health Insurance Department in the Ministry of Health. His insurance industry experience spans positions in New York; Bermuda; Washington, DC; and London, including roles with the ACE Group of Companies (now Chubb Ltd.).

"Collin's broad experience, encompassing public policy, regulation, legislation, executive management, property and casualty insurance, and international affairs, makes him a perfect fit for this role. I am confident he will be a great asset to ABIR," said John Huff, ABIR's CEO.

Pina Albo, chair of ABIR and CEO of Hamilton, added, "Collin's high level of technical and leadership skills, and his experience in both public and private sectors, equip him well to serve our members. It speaks to the depth of talent we have in Bermuda that we were able to recruit such an ideal candidate locally. We are delighted to welcome Collin to ABIR."
