CICA Teams with HCIC on Japan Captive Owners' Summit
November 12, 2019
The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) and the Hawaii Captive Insurance Council (HCIC) will team for a series of educational programs in Tokyo, Japan, November 19–20, including the second annual HCIC Japan Captive Owners' Summit.
CICA President Dan Towle and CICA Board Chair Steve McElhiney, CEO and chairman, EWI Re, will be speaking at both sessions.
"CICA welcomes the opportunity to join our captive colleagues from HCIC and the State of Hawaii Insurance Division in providing education and networking opportunities for current and prospective Japanese captive owners. Japan has a healthy insurance market with a growing interest for and use of captives," Mr. Towle explained.
He continued, "As companies in Japan increase their focus on risk management and risk financing, it's natural to look at ways to use a captive to manage risks more effectively and with more controls."
"Through the Captive Associations Leadership Council (CALC) and our relationships with domiciles and captive associations from several regions, CICA is broadening its international focus. Most recently, we have been exploring opportunities for collaboration with representatives from the Pan-Asia Risk and Insurance Management Association (PARIMA)," Mr. Towle said.
"HCIC has been helping Japanese captive owners understand ways to expand their use of captives and educating and supporting Japanese companies interested in forming captives for nearly 20 years," Paul Shimomoto, HCIC director and marketing committee chair, said.
He added, "We had a wonderful response to our first HCIC Captive Owners' Summit last year, and our annual Prospect Seminar has been a standing room only event every year. We are grateful for CICA's support and partnership, and we look forward to having CICA President Dan Towle and CICA Board Chair Steve McElhiney participating in our programs this year."
