Courtney Claflin Leaves Top University of California Captive Post
April 19, 2022
Courtney Claflin, the veteran executive director of captive programs at the University of California Office of the President, left his position earlier this month after 7 years.
"It has been a tremendous opportunity to grow the University's captive insurance programs and to help the University by using captives to both save money and generate new revenues that could support the University's mission of research, teaching, and public service," Mr. Claflin said in a statement.
Mr. Claflin's role with the university involved the development, implementation, and management of captives. That included, the statement said, strategic planning and management of current captive insurance programs, as well as the development of risk financing strategies utilizing captive insurance arrangements.
Captives that Mr. Claflin directed at the University of California were Eureka PCC, Eureka One IC, Fiat Lux Risk and Insurance Company, Sequoia IC, and UC Health RRG, a reciprocal risk retention group.
In the statement, Mr. Claflin said he will disclose his next plans later this month.
Remaining at the University of California is Karen Hsi, program manager of captive insurance programs.
