Fitch Ratings Names Cynthia Chan as Global Group Head of Insurance

Fitch Ratings has appointed Cynthia Chan as its new global group head of insurance. She is based in Fitch's London office and reports to Marjan van der Weijden, Fitch's global group head for financial institutions.

In her new post, Ms. Chan succeeds Keith Buckley, who retired at the end of February 2023 after more than 30 years at Fitch.

"Cynthia brings extensive cross-sector credit experience along with strong execution and leadership skills," Ms. van der Weijden said in a statement. "As global group head, Cynthia will set Fitch's strategy for Insurance, lead a confident credit culture, and cultivate stakeholder relationships in the Insurance market globally."

Ms. Chan has served in a number of roles during her 18-year tenure at Fitch. As a credit analyst, she oversaw Fitch's financial institutions coverage in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the Netherlands. Most recently, she served as a global group credit officer for sovereigns and financial institutions with Fitch's credit policy group.

Ms. Chan's career also includes stints in risk and on the sell-side with Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs.
