Jeff Kehler, the former captive program administrator with the South Carolina Department of Insurance, recently passed away, the South Carolina Captive Insurance Association has announced.
Mr. Kehler, who left his role to join Somers Risk Consulting as its director of captive consulting services, was known for his strong support of South Carolina as a captive domicile.
In an earlier interview with Captive.com, Mr. Kehler noted the importance of the need for captive regulators to be accessible to captive owners.
"We want to be accessible and easy to work with because our captive owners have made a major investment in our state. We want them to maximize the benefit of their captive company within the bounds of reasonable regulation," Mr. Kehler said.
South Carolina is a major captive domicile, with 183 captives at the end of 2021.
