IIRM Hyderabad Wins the 2024 Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge

A team of four risk management students from the Institute of Insurance and Risk Management (IIRM) Hyderabad recently won this year's Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge. The team from India competed against 38 universities from 9 countries.

"The record-breaking global participation in this year's Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge was inspiring and affirmed that a talented and skilled pipeline of future risk leaders stands ready to take the profession to the next level," said RIMS CEO Gary A. LaBranche, FASAE, CAE.

Over 7 months, undergraduate risk management teams tackled a risk management case study based on the City of Tukwila in Washington State. Three finalists were chosen at this year's RISKWORLD® in San Diego, where they delivered presentations before conference attendees and a panel of judges.

The IIRM Hyderabad team, known as The Vigilant Challengers, included Shivya Tuli, Yagnasritha Mallavajhala, Elvis John, Gunjan Advani, and University Representative Kameswara Venkata Roop Kumar Nagumantri.

"The Risk Management Challenge is one of the most anticipated events at RISKWORLD, as it showcases the best and brightest students from across the globe," said the Spencer Educational Foundation's executive director, Megan Miller. "Spencer is proud to partner with RIMS to provide this experiential learning opportunity for students, and we are grateful to the case champion and judges for volunteering their time and helping us guide the next generation of risk professionals."

Illinois State University secured second place in this year's challenge, followed by Peking University in third place. The top three teams were awarded cash prizes and trophies, with the first-place university receiving $10,000, the second $7,500, and the third $5,000.
