Martin Eveleigh, founder of Atlas Insurance Management and a key figure in the creation of the North Carolina captive insurance domicile, has retired.

Mr. Eveleigh led Atlas Insurance Management from its formation in 2002, then served as managing director and chairman of Risk Management Advisors following a merger between Atlas and Risk Management Advisors in 2023.

Mr. Eveleigh began his career as a broker in the Lloyd's of London market in 1983. As executive director of the International Reinsurance Division of Willis, he negotiated and placed the largest marine excess of loss programs in the world.

While working with KPMG in the British Virgin Islands, Mr. Eveleigh became a founding member of the British Virgin Islands Insurance Association.

In the North Carolina domicile, Mr. Eveleigh was the second chairman of the North Carolina Captive Insurance Association (NCCIA).

"Martin was one of those guys, in our early days, you could call and ask what he thought of a given issue," Tom Adams, NCCIA president, said in the NCCIA's November newsletter. "He would then break away from a very busy schedule and tackle the problem himself. He is a natural leader, a great guy, and the kind of person you want on your team. I wish him the best in his well-earned retirement."
