March 20, 2020
The board of the Western Region Captive Insurance Conference (WRCIC) has canceled this year's conference due to COVID-19. The event had been scheduled for May 18–20 in Salt Lake City.
In a statement, the WRCIC board said it has been monitoring and assessing the travel and health issues associated with COVID-19 and decided it was necessary to cancel the event.
The WRCIC board said it will hold its conference next year, May 10–12, 2021, in Salt Lake City.
The group said that in the months ahead, the WRCIC will continue to collaborate and function as a cohesive region in the captive insurance industry. Upcoming announcements will be geared to keeping the western region captive community interactive, the group said.
The WRCIC is just the latest captive or risk management organization to cancel its annual gathering due to the spread of COVID-19 in recent weeks, including the Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA), which canceled its 2020 International Conference, and the Risk and Insurance Management Society, which canceled its Annual Conference and Exhibition. CICA said it hopes to reschedule its annual event later this year, if possible.
