Cayman Insurance Sector Loses Veteran Leader Gordon Rowell

The Insurance Managers Association of Cayman (IMAC) has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Gordon Rowell, a distinguished figure in the Cayman Islands insurance sector and former head of insurance at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA).

Mr. Rowell's career was marked by influential roles, including chief executive officer of the Cayman Islands National Insurance Company Ltd. (CINICO), vice president at Marsh Management Services (Cayman) Ltd., chief reinsurance officer at TWG Re, and chief operating officer of Time Insurance Company II by Haven Holdings. His leadership and expertise left a lasting impact on the industry.

In addition to his executive positions, Mr. Rowell contributed significantly as a consultant, working with BDO Advisors LLC to support healthcare system reform in the Turks and Caicos Islands. He also participated in International Monetary Fund (IMF) missions to Belize and Vanuatu as a technical assistant.

Mr. Rowell's insights were sought in global reviews and initiatives. He collaborated with the British government during its 2020 evaluation of British Overseas Dependent Territories conducted by KPMG and played a key role in engaging with the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) through a specialized delegation.

A dedicated professional, Mr. Rowell earned Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) credentials from the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) and an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) designation from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (AICPCU).

IMAC highlighted Mr. Rowell's remarkable contributions to the Cayman Islands insurance industry and extended heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
