Guernsey Finance Names Insurance Business Development Representative
November 18, 2022
Guernsey Finance has appointed William Lewis as a dedicated business development representative for the insurance sector.
Mr. Lewis has worked in the insurance market for more than 44 years, acquiring a broad range of knowledge across the sector, including the formation of protected cell companies (PCCs) and extensive interaction with the Guernsey regulator. He also has experience dealing with UK and Lloyd's regulators and has previously been the director of a Lloyd's members' agent and of a Bermudan special purpose insurer.
Mr. Lewis currently serves as a director of a Guernsey PCC and is a research analyst at Hampden Agencies. He will retain both positions alongside his appointment with Guernsey Finance.
"Overall, my career has enabled me to gain a very broad and extensive knowledge of the global insurance and reinsurance markets, as well as an excellent understanding of what Guernsey has to offer, from captives to PCCs," Mr. Lewis said in a statement. "I'm really excited to be joining Guernsey Finance through this innovative initiative, and to bring benefit to Guernsey's economy."
Mr. Lewis's appointment is the first time Guernsey Finance has appointed a sector-specific business development representative, with objectives directed by both Guernsey Finance and the Guernsey International Insurance Association (GIIA). The appointment represents a new direction in the way Guernsey Finance works in partnership with the industry to achieve a shared goal of promoting Guernsey's specialist financial services industry to the rest of the world.
"Through discussions with GIIA we recognized that the insurance sector would benefit from having a dedicated business representative, as it is unlike the other specialist financial services sectors that we have here in Guernsey," Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Rupert Pleasant said in the statement. "We are thrilled to have taken this opportunity to work together with industry to now warmly welcome William on board, along with his wealth of experience in the insurance sector."
GIIA Chair Mark Elliott said in the statement, "We are delighted to have worked with Guernsey Finance on this initiative. Taking this opportunity for industry and the promotional body to work in tandem helps us both achieve our shared goal of promoting and connecting Guernsey's specialist financial services industry to the wider world, ultimately benefitting the local economy."
Guernsey Finance is the joint industry and government initiative created to promote Guernsey's financial services sector internationally.
