North Carolina Captive Group Reschedules Conference Due to COVID-19
March 24, 2020
The North Carolina Captive Insurance Association (NCCIA) has rescheduled its 2020 Annual Conference to August 30 through September 2 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The conference venue remains the Washington Duke Inn in Durham, North Carolina.
The conference was originally scheduled for May 13–15.
In a statement, Thomas Adams, president and CEO of the NCCIA, said, "Our board of directors has taken the position that we all want to control this unprecedented threat in modern times. We believe that pushing back the conference 3 months (5 months from today) will allow time for that to occur and the annual conference to proceed."
The NCCIA said individuals, sponsors, and exhibitors who have already registered for the conference will not need to reregister. The event's "early bird" registration has been extended to June 15. The NCCIA said that if there is a need for refunds between now and the conference due to COVID-19, they will be made without the published administrative fee.
Attendees planning to stay in the NCCIA room block at the Washington Duke have been notified that their rooms have been canceled for the original May dates and will need to reregister for the September dates through the NCCIA website.
David Littlehale, chairman of the NCCIA's annual conference committee, said the committee will contact speakers scheduled for the conference to confirm their ability to participate in the rescheduled event. "Undoubtedly, there will be some programmatic changes, and we will regularly update the conference agenda on the association website," Mr. Littlehale said.
"With so many conferences having been canceled, we encourage the folks impacted by those cancellations to join us in Durham for the North Carolina meeting," Mr. Adams said.
Industry events canceled or forced to reschedule thus far due to COVID-19 have included the Captive Insurance Companies Association's (CICA's) International Conference, the Western Region Captive Insurance Conference, and the Risk and Insurance Management Society's Annual Conference and Exhibition. In canceling its event, CICA indicated that it hopes to reschedule it for later this year, if possible.
