Montana Added 46 New Captive Insurance Companies in 2022

Montana licensed 46 new captive insurance companies in 2022, boosting the domicile's total captive count to 268.
"This was a very good year for captive formations," said Steve Matthews, captive insurance coordinator in the office of the Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance.
Mr. Matthews expects Montana's captive insurance formation growth to remain strong in 2023. "We don't see any reason why captive formations will not continue to be strong this year," he said.
In fact, since the start of 2023, Montana already has licensed six new captive insurance companies, Mr. Matthews said.
