The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI) has promoted veteran captive regulator Jonathan Habart to Captive Insurance Section assistant director.
Mr. Habart, who has been with the TDCI since 2016, most recently was a TDCI captive insurance specialist, where, among other things, he monitored, analyzed, and examined the financial status and regulatory compliance of captive insurance companies.
"Jonathan's experience in the insurance division, his exemplary leadership skills, and team approach will be invaluable to us in his new role and will contribute significantly to our goal of taking the captive division to the next level," Tennessee Captive Insurance Director Belinda Fortman said in a statement.
"I will work tirelessly in this role to help spur Tennessee to greater growth while ensuring a best-in-class regulatory environment," Mr. Habart said in a statement.
With 208 captives, Tennessee is one of the largest US captive domiciles, with captive growth continuing. So far this year, 14 new captives have been licensed, up from 8 during the same period in 2019. Earlier, Ms. Fortman predicted that the state will license as many as two dozen new captive insurance companies by the end of 2020.
